The term “khai-káng” (which translates as “to chat” in Taiwanese) not only commemorates the historic opening of Tainan’s harbors but also immerses visitors in a captivating experience. Seated on these bollard shaped seats, visitors are transported as if they are embarking on a sea voyage, traversing through the annals of time and embarking on a journey that resurrects four centuries of history. Moreover, as the seats rotate, they trigger pneumatic switches that emit ship horns, orchestrating a melodic tune. This artistic installation interacts with its audience, captivating passersby, the surrounding environment, and the essence of the city itself in a vibrant dialogue with history.
